Starting Fruits and Vegetables
Here’s a little incentive to keep on trying when your baby makes that terrible face the first time you shovel some peas into their mouth . . . A recent study looked at how well babies accepted vegetables versus fruits. The study showed that all of the babies ate more of the fruit (peaches) than vegetables (green beans) at first, and that the babies innately made facial expressions showing their distaste for the flavor of green beans. However, when the beans were offered every day, babies actually ate more and more.
So, no matter how horrified your baby appears to be, if they’re willing to continue eating, keep offering and your baby may even learn to like the taste of green beans.
